The Octo Project started in Denmark in February of 2013. A group of volunteers who use premium cotton to crochet colorful Octos for premature babies. The tentacles of Octo resemble the umbilical cord and remind the babies of their time in the womb.
 
I've been crocheting octopi for the last two years and have revamped the directions I've found.  These are worked in one piece starting at the top and ending with the tentacles.  Quick and easy to make with any left over yarn.  I enjoy making them to match the other gifts for the newest arrival.
